I have recently introduced some hand drawn pen details into some of my paper cuts to create landscape pieces, in circular paper frames. I wanted to give the illusion of looking through a telescope of sorts, into another world. These are all displayed in small box frames.
Science & Nature series
Hand-cut paper work inspired by the clashing of natural form and mechanical style shapes. The pieces resemble clockwork and cogs as well as leaves and foliage.
Pieces within this series have been exhibited at the Sale Waterside Arts Centre in Cheshire, the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and the Sale Arts Trail, a 2014 local event bringing artists together which will take place again in July 2015.
White & Spiky series
These pieces use my favourite colour when working with paper - white. It creates clean lines and shadows, almost making them look as if they are ceramic. These are some of my deepest pieces, with some being made up of hundreds of layers.
Two of these pieces have been exhibited at the Sale Waterside Arts Centre and the 2014 Manchester Buy Art Fair.
This is an ongoing series inspired by sealife. They combine white and bright colours to highligt certain parts of the piece and give the impression they are coming to life.
In 2014 I started my Floral series. Each piece is made up of circular layers with simple floral or leaf designs and a small hint of colour.
Wedding themed work
This is a piece I created as a relative's wedding gift in 2014. Cute coloured birds are mixed in alongside a birdcage, hearts and circles. As with all my work this was hand-cut.
Circles feature a lot in my work. When put together as layers they can create really interesting forms and these pieces do just that - no two are the same.
Black & Spiky
Despite being all black these pieces still have depth and texture, as well as shadows.
I prefer using black and white to colour, however certain colours seem to lend themselves to my work. One of these pieces has been exhibitied at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
